Terrible Twins is pure craftsmanship. We make products that make you feel good – from the choice of materials, manufacturing and for your well-being when you use them. Through form, function and commitment, we manufacture in the entrepreneurial town of Insjön in scenic Dalarna.
We have always worked closely with our suppliers and partners. We manufacture locally and on a small scale, which allows us to follow the chain all the way – from fibre to finished product.
For us , it’s important that everyone who is part of our business is able to make a living from their work, without anyone else suffering along the way. We want to be able to say that our products are made with care, and we know how.
Terrible Twins was founded by designers and product developers Sara and Karin Ström. It has always been important to us that both we and you can feel confident about the products and how they are made. For us , quality equals respect – for raw materials, for people and for the planet.
Our collections are available in our own shop and at retailers.
We were certified as a B Corp in 2021 – as one of the very first companies in Sweden. We are both proud and humbled by this. It means that the way we do business is audited according to one of the world’s most ambitious standards of social and environmental responsibility.
Being a B Corp means taking responsibility for our entire business: how we treat our people, what materials we use, how we impact the community around us – and how transparent we are about all of this. The certification is based on a comprehensive review by an independent, non-profit organisation. It is not a one-off exercise – we are audited and recertified every three years, and must continually improve in order to continue carrying the label.
B Corp certification helps us stay focused, and gives you as a customer something concrete to relate to. It shows that there is structure, control and measurability in what we do – not just good ambitions.
In an industry often characterised by short-termism, low margins and anonymous production, we want to do something different. By choosing our products, you are supporting a company that contributes to healthier consumption through conscious choices at every step – we take responsibility seriously, at every stage.
When we started the company in 2006, the choice of materials was a natural part of our identity. We fell in love with linen early on – a beautiful, durable and living natural material that only gets better with time.
Working with linen felt right, not only because it lasts a long time, but also because it requires less water and fewer chemicals in the manufacturing process. Linen is a material we trust and enjoy working with.
In 2023, we were asked if we wanted to test using recycled cotton. We were a little hesitant at first because we have a penchant for linen. But we were quickly convinced. The fabrics were soft, beautiful and made in a way that saves both water and energy.
Our fabric manufacturer has a process that recycles fabric waste from other textile industries. Instead of becoming waste , the material gets a new life – and we get the opportunity to use resources that already exist, in a responsible way.
In the film, you will learn more about how our fabric producer ensures the sustainable production of recycled fabrics.
Another example of how we are trying to think more sustainably is the collaboration with Green Hotel in Tällberg. When they replaced their linen curtains in 2023, we took care of the fabric. It became the basis for a collection of wheat warmers – made from textiles that had already been used once.
It may seem like a small thing. But in an industry where up to 80% of the climate impact already happens in manufacturing, reuse can make a big difference. Making use of what we already have is a way for us to reduce our impact, without compromising what we stand for.
